Historically, Southwest wines were transported downriver through Bordeaux, which limited their independent recognition. Freed from that shadow, the region now thrives on authenticity, offering powerful reds, rich whites, and sweet wines made from grapes rarely seen elsewhere.

The Southwest is also the ancestral home of Malbec, long before Argentina made it famous. Here, it produces the inky, brooding wines of Cahors, while Tannat gives Madiran its famously robust, age-worthy character. It is a region for adventurous drinkers seeking history, value, and personality.
