Poland is an emerging wine country at the northern edge of viable viticulture. Vineyards are concentrated in the south and southwest, where slightly warmer conditions and sheltered slopes allow grapes to ripen in most years.
Winemakers rely heavily on cold-hardy hybrid varieties and a few classic grapes such as Riesling and Pinot Noir. Production is still small, but Polish wine is developing a loyal following among locals and visitors drawn to its novelty and improving quality.
