Overview

Greater Poland lies on the rolling plains of west-central Poland around Poznań, part of the country's driest viticultural zone. Sandy and sandy-loam soils predominate, draining quickly and stressing vines into wines of surprising concentration and mineral clarity.

The region is still developing as a wine destination, with small estates near Poznań and the Warta River valley experimenting with cold-hardy hybrids, early-ripening Vitis vinifera, and small-batch fruit wines. Careful site selection on south-facing slopes is essential to offset the cool nights and shorter season.
