Montenegro

Montenegro is a small Balkan country with a long Mediterranean coastline and a wine tradition rooted in ancient Illyrian and Venetian history. The coastal region around Podgorica and Lake Skadar offers the warmest, driest conditions for viticulture.

Vranac is the national grape, producing deeply colored, robust reds with notes of dark cherry, blackberry, and Mediterranean herbs. Krstač and other local whites add variety, while family wineries are increasingly welcoming travelers to taste the country's rugged coastal character.
