Russia has a long but interrupted history of viticulture, with significant expansion in recent decades around the Black Sea and in the North Caucasus. These southern regions offer the warmest climate in the country, allowing for the cultivation of both international and local varieties.

Domestic consumption drives most production, and the industry has faced challenges from regulation and climate. Still, a small number of quality-focused wineries are emerging, particularly near Krasnodar and Crimea, producing wines that reflect Russia's vast and varied landscapes.
