Óbidos

Overview

Óbidos is one of the nine DOCs within the Lisboa wine region, centered on the picturesque medieval town of the same name. The area lies between the Atlantic coast and inland limestone hills, giving it a mild, maritime climate with cooling breezes. Vineyards grow on clay-limestone and sandy soils.

The DOC produces fresh, fruity whites and light reds, but has gained particular attention for its crisp sparkling wines made by traditional methods. Indigenous varieties such as Arinto, Fernão Pires, and Castelão dominate plantings.
