Latvia

Latvia is one of the Baltic states experimenting with grape growing at the northern limits of viticulture. The country's short summers and severe winters make wine production challenging, so most attempts rely on cold-hardy hybrid varieties.

Output is very small, with a few farms producing fruit wines, berry wines, and limited quantities of grape wine. For travelers, Latvian wine is a niche experience best explored alongside the country's rich beer, cider, and spirits traditions.
