Ireland is not a traditional wine-producing country. Its cool, wet, oceanic climate makes grape cultivation extremely difficult, and commercial vineyards are rare. Most Irish wine consumption is imported, particularly from nearby European neighbors.

A handful of experimental growers in the southeast and along sheltered coastlines are testing cold-hardy hybrids with modest success. For now, Ireland's contribution to wine culture is better measured in its thriving restaurants, pubs, and appreciation for fine bottles from abroad.
