Brazil is the third largest wine producer in South America, with the vast majority of output coming from Serra Gaúcha in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. The region's highland plateaus and European immigrant heritage have created a wine culture that blends Old World tradition with tropical ambition.

Sparkling wine is a particular strength, with Brazil's best examples rivaling those from cooler climates. While many vineyards still rely on hybrid grapes suited to humidity, a new wave of producers is exploring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay at higher, cooler elevations.
