Campanha

Overview

Campanha lies in the southern half of Rio Grande do Sul, along the border with Uruguay. It was granted Indicação Geográfica status in 2008 and is recognized for its well-drained soils, lower rainfall than Serra Gaúcha, and strong temperature swings between day and night that help grapes retain acidity.

The region has built its reputation on Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Touriga Nacional, as well as whites such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio. Campanha's modern wineries often work with Mediterranean and Portuguese varieties, reflecting the open plains and warm, sunny climate of southernmost Brazil.
