Velké Pavlovice

Overview

The Velké Pavlovice wine sub-region stretches between Brno and the towns of Velké Bílovice and Velké Pavlovice in central South Moravia. It is known as the heart of Moravian red wine production, with soils of sand, loam, calcareous clay, and siltstone that favor blue grape varieties, especially on magnesium-rich sites.

Grüner Veltliner is the most widely planted white variety, but the region's reputation rests on red grapes such as Frankovka, the local name for Blaufränkisch, and Svatovavřinecké, known as St. Laurent. The area is also famous for its open wine cellars and lively wine festivals.
