Uppsala lies at the northern margin of realistic Swedish grape growing, with a shorter frost-free period and more continental winters than the southern coast. Because the climate is so marginal, most local wine production comes from apples, blackcurrants, aronia, and other cold-hardy fruits rather than grapes.
