Overview
Turkish Thrace accounts for a large share of the country's wine production, with key vineyard zones around Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, Şarköy and Çanakkale. Influenced by three seas, the climate is Mediterranean with a maritime character, giving mild winters and warm, dry summers moderated by cooling breezes.
Diverse soils of limestone, gravelly loam and decomposed granite support both indigenous and international grapes. Historic varieties such as Papazkarası and Yapıncak grow alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc along the developing Thrace Wine Route.
