Overview
Trondheim is far beyond the latitude of traditional viticulture, yet its residents support one of Norway's most engaged wine communities through festivals, wine bars and forward-looking restaurants. The surrounding Trøndelag countryside supplies raspberries, blackcurrants and hardy apples that local makers ferment into small-batch wines and ciders.
The climate is cool oceanic, mild for the latitude thanks to the fjord but still marked by short, cool summers and snowy winters. Raspberry and blackcurrant wines lead the local drinks scene, while apples support traditional fruit wines and a few experimental Solaris plantings seek the warmest microsites. Soils are marine clays, glacial till and acidic podzols.
