Samaipata

Overview

Samaipata sits in the Santa Cruz valleys at roughly 1,600 to 2,600 meters above sea level, about three hours by car from the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The town is known as Bolivia's Little Switzerland for its cobblestone streets, mountain views, and surrounding vineyards that benefit from cool nights and high diurnal temperature shifts.

The region's wine industry began commercially in the early 2000s and is now recognized for Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Tannat, Syrah, and the white grapes Pedro Giménez and Torrontés. Leading producers such as Vinos 1750-Uvairenda and Landsuá have put Samaipata on the map with award-winning wines and a fast-developing wine tourism scene.
