Rose Valley

A valley of roses and aromatic whites between the Balkan and Sredna Gora mountains.

Overview

The Rose Valley lies between the Balkan Mountains and the Sredna Gora range in central Bulgaria, famous for its rose oil harvest and increasingly for its white wines. The region's moderate climate, with cool nights and warm days, preserves acidity while allowing grapes to develop delicate aromatics.

Red Misket, a white grape with pink skins, is the valley's signature variety, producing aromatic, mineral-laden wines. Muscat Ottonel, Riesling, and Chardonnay are also important, and the area has become a center for Bulgarian sparkling wine production. Estates such as Chateau Copsa and Edoardo Miroglio have raised the valley's profile.

  • Muscat OttonelA fragrant white used for fresh, floral still wines and sparkling blends.
