Overview
Prince Edward County is a peninsula and island community on the northeastern shore of Lake Ontario. Its shallow, rocky soils are loaded with limestone, giving the region a Burgundian feel and making it especially suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The lake moderates temperatures but winters can still be severe.
The county has grown rapidly since the early 2000s into one of Ontario's most exciting wine destinations. Producers such as Grange of Prince Edward, Huff Estates, Closson Chase, and Rosehall Run have established the area's reputation for mineral-driven whites and elegant, high-acid reds.
