Paphos Vineyards
Paphos District, Cyprus

Paphos

Western Cyprus, where vineyards climb from the coast toward the Akamas Peninsula and the Troodos foothills.

Overview

Paphos covers the western part of Cyprus, from the coastal city of the same name inland toward the Troodos Mountains and the wild Akamas Peninsula. The district has a long history of viticulture, and its vineyards range from sea level to higher, cooler slopes where white varieties perform best.

Xynisteri remains the dominant grape, producing fresh, mineral whites, while small amounts of Maratheftiko and international varieties add diversity. The region's combination of seaside tourism and mountain vineyards makes Paphos an increasingly interesting destination for wine travelers.

Key Varietals

  • XynisteriA crisp, citrus-driven white with floral and almond notes.
  • MaratheftikoA structured indigenous red with dark cherry and herbal flavors.
  • MavroA local dark grape used in blends and traditional wines.
  • ChardonnayAn international white that takes on fresh, mineral character in Paphos.
