Overview
The Okanagan Valley is Canada's most important wine region, stretching roughly 250 kilometers through southern British Columbia between the Cascade and Monashee mountain ranges. The valley's chain of deep lakes moderates a desert-like climate, creating warm days, cool nights, and one of the longest growing seasons in the country.
Key centers include Oliver, known as Canada's wine capital, Osoyoos at the warm southern end, and Kelowna at the northern gateway. Mission Hill, Quails' Gate, CheckMate Artisanal, and Hester Creek are among the region's best-known producers. The valley excels with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer.
