Neuchâtel

The birthplace of Oeil-de-Perdrix, where Pinot Noir and Chasselas define lake-cooled elegance.

Overview

Neuchâtel is the flagship of the Three Lakes Region, with roughly 600 hectares of vineyards along the northern shore of Lake Neuchâtel. The lake tempers the climate and creates reliable ripening conditions for Pinot Noir, which covers more than half of the canton's plantings.

The region is celebrated for Oeil-de-Perdrix, a pale pink Pinot Noir rosé first documented in 1861, and for Non-Filtré, an unfiltered Chasselas released each January. Nearly a quarter of Neuchâtel's vineyards are organically farmed, the highest share in Switzerland.

Key Varietals

  • Pinot NoirThe dominant grape, crafted into pale rosés, refined reds, and the iconic Oeil-de-Perdrix.
  • ChasselasA fresh white that forms the base for Non-Filtré and shows delicate mineral and floral notes.
  • GamayA juicy red adding bright fruit and softness to blends and varietal bottlings.
  • Pinot GrisA textured white producing rounded, aromatic wines on the Jurassic limestone slopes.
