Overview
Nashik is the heart of modern Indian winemaking, accounting for the majority of the country's wine production. Vineyards sit between 600 and 730 meters above sea level in the Godavari River valley, where tropical heat is tempered by elevation. This altitude creates a wide diurnal swing that preserves acidity while allowing grapes to ripen fully.
The region's red laterite and basaltic soils, formed from the ancient Deccan Traps, drain freely and stress the vines, concentrating flavors. Harvest runs from February to April, an unusual window that lets Nashik wines reach international markets ahead of Northern Hemisphere competitors.
