Nandi Hills

Cool hill-country vineyards that put Karnataka on the global wine map.

Overview

Nandi Hills is Karnataka's flagship wine region, rising to elevations of 800 to 950 meters with the peak reaching nearly 1,480 meters. The elevated terrain creates cooler nights and a slower ripening season than much of peninsular India, helping grapes retain natural acidity and develop complex flavors.

Grover Zampa Vineyards, one of India's oldest premium producers, is based here, along with a growing cluster of boutique wineries. The scenic hills, dotted with historic temples and fortresses, make the region a popular wine-tourism destination within easy reach of Bangalore.

Key Varietals

  • Cabernet SauvignonStructured and dark-fruited, it benefits from the cool hillside air.
  • ShirazSpicy and rich, producing some of the region's most acclaimed reds.
  • Sauvignon BlancCrisp and aromatic, with bright citrus and herbal notes.
