Overview
Naivasha sits on the floor of the Great Rift Valley beside the freshwater Lake Naivasha, roughly 90 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. At an altitude of about 2,000 meters and lying almost on the equator, the area combines tropical sunshine with cool highland nights that slow ripening and preserve delicate flavors. Morendat Farm, home to Leleshwa Winery, is the most recognized vineyard and winery in Kenya.
The proximity of the lake moderates temperature extremes and creates a scenic, wildlife-rich setting for vineyard visits. Volcanic soils drain freely and contribute mineral notes to the wines. The estate focuses on Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, and Merlot, crafting bright, food-friendly wines that have helped introduce Kenyan wine to local and international drinkers.
