Limassol

Overview

Limassol is the largest wine-producing district in Cyprus and the commercial heart of the island's wine industry. The city hosts the annual Cyprus Wine Festival and sits at the foot of the Troodos Mountains, where many of the island's most important vineyards are located. The district includes the historic Commandaria villages and the medieval Kolossi Castle.

The local climate is warm Mediterranean, ideal for the indigenous Xynisteri white and Maratheftiko red, as well as the sweet Commandaria made from sun-dried Xynisteri and Mavro grapes. Large producers such as KEO and SODAP operate alongside small family wineries in the surrounding hills.
