Kaveri Valley Vineyards
Karnataka, along the Kaveri River basin

Kaveri Valley

A riverside appellation where cool breezes and red sandy loam shape elegant wines.

Overview

Kaveri Valley, also known as Cauvery Valley, is a designated wine-growing area in Karnataka along the middle reaches of the Kaveri River. The valley is surrounded by hills, lush paddy fields, and wildlife reserves, creating a cool microclimate that is well suited to viticulture.

Alpine Wineries pioneered the appellation with a technically advanced estate, drawing on international consultants and imported French clones. The red sandy loam soils and moderate temperatures allow both reds and whites to ripen slowly and develop finesse.

Key Varietals

  • Cabernet SauvignonDense and structured, gaining depth from the valley's red soils.
  • ShirazSpicy and medium-bodied, expressing the cool riverside climate.
  • Sauvignon BlancCrisp and aromatic, with bright acidity from the valley breezes.
  • ChardonnayRounded and textured, responding well to the moderate ripening season.
