Overview

The Judean Hills rise west and south of Jerusalem, encompassing vineyards from the outskirts of the city through Gush Etzion and south toward Yatir Forest. Elevations typically range from 600 to 950 meters, with cool nights and refreshing breezes from the Mediterranean moderating warm summer days. The thin, rocky soils are dominated by limestone, chalk, and terra rossa over bedrock.

This region has become synonymous with Israeli boutique winemaking, home to celebrated estates such as Domaine du Castel, Tzora, Flam, and Sphera. Winemakers here favor elegance and freshness, producing refined Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Bordeaux-style blends that are among the most highly rated wines in the country.
