Jendouba

Overview

Jendouba is the rainiest governorate in Tunisia, receiving abundant winter precipitation that can exceed 1,500 mm in the highest Kroumirie foothills. The wine-growing areas occupy the lower coastal and inland slopes, where the climate remains Mediterranean but is softened by humidity and altitude. Traditional agriculture includes cereals, olives, and vines on mixed clay-loam soils.

Though less famous than Cap Bon, Jendouba's vineyards produce ripe reds, rosés, and small lots of aromatic whites. The reliable winter rainfall reduces vine water stress, while warm, dry summers concentrate sugars. Local growers favour hardy Mediterranean varieties that retain acidity despite the heat.
