Hua Hin

A coastal New Latitude wine destination where sea breezes, sandy soils, and sunny skies craft fresh Colombard and crisp Sauvignon Blanc.

Overview

Hua Hin is best known as Thailand's original seaside resort, but its surrounding hills have also become one of the country's most visited wine destinations. The Hua Hin Hills Vineyard, home to Siam Winery's Monsoon Valley label, lies inland from the Gulf and benefits from a drier microclimate than much of the peninsula, with reliable sunshine and cooling maritime airflow. Vineyards are planted on free-draining, gently rolling terrain where double pruning and careful canopy management keep disease pressure in check.

The terroir here is distinctly coastal: sandy loam soils are laced with ancient shell fossils, adding a subtle saline minerality to the whites. The estate has become famous for elephant-tended vines and a stylish tasting sala overlooking the vines. Colombard has emerged as a star variety, along with Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and Sangiovese, producing easy-drinking, food-friendly wines designed to pair with Thai cuisine and humid tropical evenings.

Key Varietals

  • ColombardA crisp, light-bodied white with green apple, lemon, and tropical notes, prized for its bright acidity and clean, refreshing finish.
  • Sauvignon BlancA zesty white with citrus, passion fruit, and fresh herb character, given extra verve by the coastal breezes and sandy soils.
  • ShirazA bold, spicy red with dark berry fruit, black pepper, and a rounded texture from the consistently warm, sunny days.
  • SangioveseA medium-bodied Italian red with red cherry, plum, and earthy notes, retaining bright acidity in the dry coastal climate.
