Graubünden

Overview

Graubünden, also known as Grisons, is Switzerland's third-largest wine region by area, with about 420 hectares concentrated in the Bündner Herrschaft along the Rhine Valley from Maienfeld to Fläsch. The warm Föhn wind sweeps down the valley, extending the growing season and concentrating flavors in the grapes.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder, dominates and produces elegant, age-worthy reds with fine tannins. Müller-Thurgau, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and the rare indigenous Completer add white-wine interest, while the region's calcareous slate and limestone soils imprint a distinct mineral signature.
