Overview
Cederberg is a standalone ward in the Olifants River region, set among the dramatic, ferruginous peaks of the Cederberg Wilderness. Vineyards are some of the highest and most remote in South Africa, often planted above 1,000 metres. The altitude brings cool nights even when summer days are warm, preserving acidity and extending the ripening period.
Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz are the best-known wines, with Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon also performing well. The remote location means farming is challenging, but the combination of pristine environment, unique terroir, and small production has earned Cederberg a cult following among South African wine enthusiasts.
