Cappadocia

Overview

Cappadocia is one of Turkey's most visually striking wine regions, with vineyards sitting between 1,000 and 1,400 metres above sea level among eroded volcanic towers and ancient cave dwellings. The marked continental climate brings cold, snowy winters, hot dry summers and wide day-night temperature swings that preserve acidity in the grapes.

Volcanic tuff, tufa and ash soils provide excellent drainage and a distinct mineral imprint, making the region the acknowledged home of the Emir grape. Producers such as Turasan and Kavaklidere also grow Narince, Kalecik Karası and international varieties, crafting both sparkling and still wines.
