Overview
The Aegean is Turkey's largest wine-producing region, spanning coastal plains, sheltered valleys and inland hills rising toward 900 metres. A Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, with sea breezes moderating temperatures near the shore while inland sites experience greater diurnal variation.
Soils range from limestone and calcareous sandstone to schist, red clay and fertile alluvial deltas. Indigenous grapes such as Bornova Misketi, Çalkarası and Urla Karası thrive here alongside Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, making the Aegean a hub of experimentation and quality revival.
