About the Winery

Insula Vinus is the personal wine project of Paulo Machado, one of the most important winemaking talents in the Azores, founded in 2006 and based in Sao Mateus on Pico Island. Machado's vineyards are primarily located on the southern coast of Pico, where fog and clouds help preserve acidity in the wines made from Arinto dos Acores, Terrantez do Pico, Verdelho, and other indigenous varieties. The winery focuses on producing characterful, aromatic wines with lively acidity and pronounced minerality that reflect the volcanic terroir and Atlantic maritime influence.
