About the Winery

Julia Kemper Wines is located at Quinta do Cruzeiro in Oliveira-Mangualde in the Dão region, founded in 2003 when Julia de Melo Kemper, a lawyer from Lisbon, took on her family's centuries-old winemaking heritage that spans over 400 years. The estate's 15 hectares of vines sit on a high-altitude plateau surrounded by mountains with pine and olive trees at approximately 700 meters altitude, practicing organic and biodynamic viticulture with indigenous varieties including Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Encruzado, and Malvasia Fina. The first wines were released in 2008 to critical acclaim, and the winery offers daily tastings and visits by appointment, with programs ranging from standard tastings of two wines to vineyard tours with tastings of three wines accompanied by fresh bread and olive oil from the estate's production.
