About the Winery

Casa de Santar is a historic family-owned manor house in the Dão region near Carregal do Sal and Nelas, with wine production dating back to 1616, making it the largest private estate in the region with 120 hectares of vines split between two locations. The estate grows Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, and Tinta Roriz for reds, and Arinto, Cercial, and Encruzado for whites, with 80% of the vineyard planted in separate varietal plantings, and was the first property in the region to use French oak barriques. Notable plots include the Vinha dos Amores, a slope with exceptional soil and solar exposure where the estate's best Encruzado and Touriga Nacional grapes are grown, and the winery offers visits and tastings showcasing their range of elegant, terroir-driven Dão wines.
