About the Winery

Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo was founded in 1956 by 154 partners and currently has 350 members, inheriting a winemaking tradition that dates back to the 12th century when Cistercian monks established viticulture in the region. Located at the foothills of the Serra da Marofa, the cooperative receives approximately 6.5 million kilograms of grapes annually, producing about 4.8 million liters of wine with 55% white and 45% red from indigenous varieties including Síria, Malvasia Fina, Arinto, Fonte Cal, Mourisco, Marufo, Rufete, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz. The cooperative has earned numerous national and international awards for wines of unquestionable quality, reflecting the continental Mediterranean climate and schist and sandstone soils of the Castelo Rodrigo subregion.
