Quinta de Foz do Arouce
About the Winery
Quinta de Foz do Arouce is located near Lousã, south of Bairrada in the Beiras region, on an estate that has been in the family since the 12th century and currently covers 60 hectares with 15 hectares of vineyards protected from Atlantic influence by the Serra da Lousã and Serra da Penela mountains. The vineyards are planted primarily with Baga (80%) and Touriga Nacional (20%) for reds, along with Cerceal, Fernão Pires, and Bical for whites on schist and alluvial soils, with noted oenologist João Portugal Ramos consulting on winemaking. The estate produces approximately 10,000 bottles of red and 1,500 bottles of white annually, with the Vinhas Velhas de Santa Maria coming from vines over 100 years old, though the winery does not currently offer regular public tastings or visits.
