About the Winery

Quinta das Bágeiras was founded in 1989 by Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno in Fogueira, Sangalhos, in the Bairrada region, establishing the first new wine company in Bairrada in over 20 years by bottling wines from family vineyards previously sold in bulk. The estate now spans 28 hectares across 10 vineyard plots, specializing in indigenous varieties led by Baga for reds and Maria Gomes and Bical for whites, with all reds fermented in open lagares using traditional methods and all sparkling wines produced exclusively as Bruto Natural without dosage. The fourth generation of the Nuno family continues the minimalist, terroir-driven approach, producing wines known for their aging potential and unique identity, with guided tours and tastings available Monday through Saturday.
