Prior Lucas
About the Winery
Prior Lucas is a boutique winery founded in 2013 by Rui Lucas in the Bairrada region, named by combining his surname with that of his great-grandfather José Francisco Prior, a priest who once had vineyards in Souselas. The estate works with centenarian vineyard blocks and focuses on indigenous Bairrada varieties including Baga, Trincadeira, Castelão, and Bical, using traditional low-intervention winemaking methods with some wines fermented and aged in unique barrels made from exotic woods including mahogany, chestnut, acacia, and eucalyptus. Wine tourism is an important part of the business, with the spacious winery offering guided tours and tastings Monday through Saturday where visitors can taste wines made from these historic vineyards and learn about the family's viticultural heritage.
