West-Whitehill Winery
About the Winery
Founded in 1981 by Steve West in Hardy County, West Virginia in the Potomac Highlands area known as the South Branch Valley. The vineyard lies in a unique rain shadow that receives less rain than anywhere else in the state, making it ideal for growing grapes. Produces wine from French-American hybrid varietals selected for the colder climate: Chambourcin (dry red aged in French oak), Seyval Blanc (semi-dry fruity white), Aurore (fresh, light, dry white), and Vidal Blanc (semi-dry fruity). Known for unique dessert wines including Highland Mist (sweet blush with orange and lemon spices), Mountain Spice (sweet red with clove and cinnamon), Classic Current (dessert sweet red with black currants), Raspberry Royale, and Cherry Wine. Free tastings available.
