About the Winery
Thatch Winery (formerly First Colony Winery) is a boutique winery located 10 miles from downtown Charlottesville on 60 acres. Features a unique thatched roof made of Turkish water reed, reportedly the only winery in the country with a custom thatched roof. Has over 12 acres under vine with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Purchased by Michael Shaps in July 2022.
