About the Winery

New Mexico's oldest winery, founded in 1977 (some sources say 1981) by brothers Michael and Patrick Johnson in the Rio Embudo Valley. Located at 6,100 feet elevation, making it the highest commercial winery in the United States. The name 'La Chiripada' means 'a stroke of luck.' The adobe winery was built by hand. Also features an art gallery with local art and ceramics. Won numerous awards at Southwest Wine Competition and NM State Fair.

Wed-Mon 11am-5pm, closed Tuesdays. Free tastings. Also has a wine shop in Taos on Bent Street.
