About the Winery
Hartwood Winery was the first commercial farm winery in Stafford County, Virginia, opened in 1989 by owner Jim Livingston. The winery name comes from the Old English word for deer, reflecting the area's heavy deer population. Jim established the first Stafford County commercial vineyard in 1981. The winery grew Vidal, Seyval, and Chambourcin grapes and was known for its authentic, small farm winery experience. Hartwood Winery was a 30-year pioneer in Virginia wine. PERMANENTLY CLOSED as of 2020.
