About the Winery

Hardware Hills is a family-owned and operated vineyard in the hills along the historic Hardware River near Scottsville, VA. A proud member of the Monticello Wine Trail. Originally established as Thistle Gate Winery in 2007 by Leslie and George Cushnie, it was Fluvanna County's first vineyard/winery. New owners Andrea and Rob Nickels purchased the property and re-opened it in 2021. The vineyard is perched above the Hardware River on well-sloped terrain facing south/southwest with well-drained rocky soils. Production around 1,000 cases a year.
