About the Winery
Baron Widmann is a historic estate winery in Cortaccia, Alto Adige, with documented winegrowing dating back to Roman times around 300 AD, and continuous family cultivation since 1824 by the Barons Widmann Staffelfeld Ulmburg. The estate's 15 hectares of vineyards range from 220 to 600 meters elevation on sunny, sometimes steep slopes, producing classic wines from indigenous varieties like Schiava and Gewürztraminer as well as Bordeaux varieties including the historic Auhof Cabernet-Merlot blend, first planted by Alfons Ritter von Widmann in the 19th century. With 35,000 bottles annually, the estate combines centuries of tradition with careful vineyard zoning and low-intervention winemaking.
