About the Winery

Vini Ruj is a winery in Doberdò del Lago, in the heart of the Carso Goriziano near the Slovenian border, produced by the Kovac family, who have inhabited these rocky lands for generations as blacksmiths (kovaci in Slovenian) turned viticulturists. The family's spectacular underground cellar, carved into the rock at a depth of 10 meters, maintains a constant cool temperature for aging their wines, including the indigenous Terrano and Malvasia Istriana, grown on 4 hectares of wind-swept vineyards on stratified soils of red earth, limestone, and clay.
