About the Winery
Villa Matilde is a prestigious winery founded in the 1960s by Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer and historian, in Cellole, province of Caserta, Campania, with the mission of reviving the legendary Falernum wine once loved by the ancient Romans. Today managed by his children Salvatore and Maria Ida Avallone, the estate includes the original Tenuta Rocca dei Leoni in Caserta, the Sannio estate, and the Altavilla estate in Irpinia, producing Falerno del Massico DOC and wines from indigenous varieties including Falanghina, Aglianico, and Piedirosso.
