About the Winery

Decugnano dei Barbi is a historic winery near Orvieto in Umbria, with origins dating to 1212 when wine was produced for the Orvieto Cathedral clergy, and was revitalized in 1973 by Claudio Barbi who planted vineyards on 32 hectares of unique terroir with marine fossil soils from the Pliocene era. The estate was the first in Umbria to produce Metodo Classico sparkling wine in 1978 and the first in Italy to create a noble rot wine in 1981, and today Claudio's son Enzo continues the legacy producing Orvieto Classico, multi-layered whites and reds from varieties including Grechetto, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, and Syrah.
