About the Winery
Domaine Les Bastides is a historic family estate in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation. Jean and Anne-Marie Salen purchased the property in 1967, and their daughter Carole, who studied viticulture and enology in Bordeaux and Beaune, joined her father in 1987 and now runs the domaine. Since its founding, the 22-hectare estate has been certified organic—one of the earliest in the region. The vineyards are planted on north-west-facing hillsides between 252 and 380 meters altitude, surrounded by forest, on clay-limestone soils. The estate produces white, Rose de saignée, and red wines from varieties including Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Rolle (Vermentino), Clairette, and Ugni Blanc. The domaine is also famous for reviving vin cuit, a traditional cooked wine of Aix served during the Christmas holidays with 13 desserts.
“An organic estate since 1967 in Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, famous for reviving the traditional vin cuit.”
