About the Winery

Alain Aufranc is a wine producer in the Beaujolais region. The Aufranc family is represented by Pascal Aufranc, who began his career as a winemaker with just 1.6 hectares on the steep hillside of En-Rémont at 350 meters elevation. He renovated an old farmhouse surrounded by vineyards planted in the 1930s, bordered by oak trees (the name 'Chénas' derives from these woods). The estate now covers 10 hectares across three crus: 7 hectares in Juliénas, 2 in Chénas, and 1 in Fleurie. The estate's flagship cuvée, Probus, represents the 'essence of Juliénas'—a robust, structured wine made from 50- to 55-year-old vines. The Chénas Vignes de 1939 comes from pure pink granite soils adjacent to the estate, producing a dense yet refined wine. The wines are vinified using whole clusters in traditional Beaujolais fashion.
